The trend is gaining momentum and encompasses everything from transitions to non-profit sector work, volunteering and social entrepreneurship.

Civic Ventures. A national non-profit think tank focused on civic engagement of older adults, led by Marc Freedman, one of the key leaders of this movement. Among other things, Civic Ventures sponsors the Purpose Prize, an award given annually that recognizes trailblazers who have demonstrated creative and effective work tackling social problems. This year, the winners were chosen from 1,000 nominees; six winners received $100,000 prizes, with another nine recipients getting $10,000 awards.
